FROM BENIDORM TO BECCLES

Friday 9th June sees a host of stars appear on the stage at Beccles with a comedy performance - Dirty Dusting. The 2023 production stars Crissy Rock, Leah Bell and Vanessa Karon.

You will recognise Crissy Rock as hotel manageress Janey York in ITV’s sitcom Benidorm whom she played from 2007, until 2011 when she left the show. Although she returned in Episode 6 of Series 5 for a cameo role, and then again for two episodes of Series 7 in 2015.

Crissy first became a household name in 1994 when she won the Golden Bear award in Cannes for her performance in Ken Loach’s film Ladybird Ladybird staring alongside Ray Winstone.

Chrissy Rock also took part in the 11th series of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! which aired in 2011. She came 6th and left on Day 19.

Leah Bell, who also stars in the comedy performance is no stranger to the stage. She is a singer, actress and panto professional and has starred alongside the likes of Norman Wisdom, Danny La Rue and David Jason as well as having toured with Ken Dodd.

Written by Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood, Dirty Dusting first premiered in 2003 and the current production has been on tour for two years with no signs of stopping just yet.

Dirty Dusting tells the story of Gladys, Olive, and Elsie who are three “vintage style” cleaning ladies who are threatened with redundancy. Together they chance on an ‘unconventional’ way of earning some extra cash. A wrong number requiring a Sex Chat Line rings into the office and gives the ladies a great idea, “why not start their own Sex Chat Line?” After all, their age and appearance won’t matter on the telephone, and providing they can keep this a secret from Dave, their boss, they could be onto a winner!
